Background History
Back in the day, air cooled small outboard motors such as Tanaka, populated the camping outdoors market and filled a specific niche. These motors were often found at camping ground stores, and some department stores such a Sears and Montgomery Ward. Sign of the Times
Given today’s climate of “going green”, marine manufactures, have been producing portable water cooled 4 stroke small outboards ranging in weight from 38lbs. to 58lbs., but have proven to be still too heavy for true portability Outboard Maintenance
When service is needed, our small outboards are easily repairable requiring no marine technician services. There are no complicated components requiring yearly maintenance or parts replacements in comparison to other brands that require the services of a full-fledged marine mechanic along with exorbitant hourly fees. Our small outboards are DIY quick repairs. |
Recent Upgrades
In recent years four stroke small outboards have gained popularity, in part because they are made lighter and easier to start, since gasoline is injected directly into the cylinder igniting quicker; this raw fuel is more volatile than mixed fuel. Outboard Comparisons
When comparing Florida small outboard to other outboard brands. Florida Small Outboard Motors are truly portable because they only weigh 20lbs +/-., are not water cooled, because they are air cooled, and available in short and long shaft lengths. Portability
Our portable 20lbs air cooled small outboards, deliver 1.5 hours per tank full at WOT with the built in 32 oz fuel tank or 30 miles with one gallon aux. tank, making theses the perfect economical choice for fuel efficiency. |
These small outboard motors come with an aluminum propeller, safety switch, and tool kit. Outboard motors are on sale, plus we offer free shipping in the lower 48 states.

Lightweight doesn’t mean cutting back on power, it just means using hybrid alloy metals that are 50% lighter in weight and perform equally as well under stress. This improvement is of paramount importance since portage is the biggest concern when considering outboard motors, making this small outboard the best choice.
The 3.5 HP outboard motor features power to propel small boats, inflatables, dinghy, Jon boats and Daysailer. The built-in 24 oz. gas tank, provides approximately 1.5 hours of operation at wide open throttle and even twice as long at mid to slow speed.
Over the years, technology improved these motors and are now being built with small catalytic converters in the muffler to burn off excess oil before exiting the motor. This improvement also serves to dampen the sound.
The next improvement addressed fuel consumption. Originally, small outboards were made with a float and ball system. The fuel was delivered by gravity from the gas tank.
Their floats were prone to getting stuck during transport, causing fuel to flow into the engine block making it impossible to start the engine without a tear down.
The new generation four cycle are produced with pulsating carburetor delivery system which delivers fuel on demand only while engine is running
